What to Expect

taichung airport guideThe small terminal at Taichung Airport (code: RMQ), divided into international and domestic areas, primarily handles East and Southeast Asia flights. Amenities include a few eateries and shops, both landside and airside, plus reading bars that allow travellers to take or leave a book. Free WiFi helps pass the time.

Sleeping in Taichung Airport

The airport closes nightly, after the day’s last flight, until 6:00 AM, so overnight stays are impossible. For uninterrupted sleep, nearby hotels offer a shuttle service. See the Airport Hotels section below for locations, or read traveller airport reviews for more tips.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airport Hours

The airport is open from 6:00 AM until the last flight. Sleeping in the airport overnight is not possible.

Airport Hotels

Drinking Water

Food & Drinks

Options are available in both terminals; there are no 24-hour options. All food operators are open from 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM.

Luggage Storage & Lockers

Lockers are available for rent in the International Terminal beside the check-in counter, available 6:00 AM – 11:00 PM. Rates: Big Locker: NT50 for three hours and Small Locker: NT30 for three hours; see car rental service counter if coins are required.

Mobile Charging

Recharge your mobile devices before your flight. Outlets can be found on the 1st and 3rd floors of the Domestic Terminal and International Terminal.

WiFi/Internet

Free WiFi is available at Taichung Airport. There is also an internet zone with five computers in the waiting lounge on the 3rd Floor International Terminal beside the Children’s Play Area.

More Services, Facilities & Things To Do On A Layover

Art in the Airport – The airport features some impressive pieces of art, mostly centred around aviation. Look way up!

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so check your bank’s fee schedule and daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Domestic Terminal, on the first floor and International Terminal, on the first and second floors.

Currency Exchange – International Terminal, Arrival Hall, open 6:00 AM – 11:00 PM • International Terminal, Arrival Baggage Claim Zone, open 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

Duty-Free & Shopping – Duty-free shops are located on the third floor of the international terminal, airside, and in the immigration clearance corridor, second floor of the international terminal, airside. Hours: 6:00 AM – 11:00 PM. 2 Easy Mart locations may be handy for any last-minute snack.

Family Services – Travelling with children? These services are available to help you get through the airport easier:

  • Children’s Area – When you want to ensure your kids burn off all their energy before their flight, take them to the children’s play area. Location: International Terminal, Airside, 3F, beside the Internet/Computer Room.
  • Nursing Rooms – There are nursing rooms for breastfeeding and diaper changing throughout the airport.
  • Stroller Rental – If you want to make getting around the airport with your child easier, strollers are free to borrow. Locations: Landside, 1st Floor, near Check-in counters • 2nd Floor, near Tourism Information desk.

Information Desk – Have any questions? Visit one of the airport information desks for assistance! Locations: Domestic Terminal, center of 1st Floor (Hours: 6:00 AM – last flight) • International Terminal, center of 1st Floor (Hours: 5:30 AM – 11:00 PM).

Luggage Wrapping – Protect your bags from theft and damage by having them wrapped in plastic. Locations: Departure Hall of the International Terminal, between the international and domestic terminals. Hours: 8:30 AM – 8:30 PM. Rates: Small and medium-sized baggage – NT50; large baggage – NT80.

Medical Services – First aid, minor surgical procedures, and more are available at the Nursing Stations. Locations: Domestic Terminal, beside the Information Desk • International Terminal, opposite the convenience store. Hours for both: 5:30 AM – 11:30 PM.

Postal Services – Drop off your last-minute postcards at the airport Information Desks (See above for details).

Reading Bars – Looking for something to read, head to the “shared book reading bars” in both terminals, take a book or leave a book.

Travel Agencies – If you are arriving in Taichung and need local arrangements or help planning a last-minute trip abroad, the Tourist Information Counter can probably be of assistance. Location: Immigration Hall. Hours: 8:00 AM – 9:00 PM.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Bus

Several local and regional bus lines serve the airport. Buses stop in the parking lot next to the south end of the terminal.

Car Rentals

Car rentals are available on-site in the northwest wing of the International Terminal. Hours: 8:30 AM – 8:30 PM.

Taxis

Metered taxis are readily available for hire at the B1 exit of the Export Area, along the traffic lane.
