What to Expect

St. John’s Airport (code: YYT) has a small, modern terminal with eight gates and a half dozen shops and eateries split between the air and land sides. WiFi is available, and there are mobile device charging stations near the gates. Additional comfort can be found through fee-based access to the airport’s first-class lounge. Sleeping in St. John’s Airport

A reviewer reported that the airport staff had no issues with them staying at the airport. You can find plenty of benches suitable for lying down at the far east of the terminal next to the children’s play area. In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. The airport is open 24 hours.

A reader sent us this additional information, “I contacted the airport YYT in April 2024 to ask how early you could enter the security side for early morning flights out of YYT. They replied that ‘pre-board screening opens around 3:30 a.m. Once open, you can go through at any time prior to your flight’. Hopes this helps.”

More Services, Facilities & Things To Do On A Layover

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs operated by CIBC are available. Fees may apply, so check your bank’s fee schedule and daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Landside, 1st floor in the Atrium (between the elevator and the Jellybean Harbour) ▪ Airside, Departures lounge, across from gate 9.

Baby Care Facilities – If you are travelling with an infant, diaper-changing facilities are available in several washrooms throughout the terminal. Additionally, a nursing station is on the 2nd Floor of the Departure Lounge.

Children’s Play Areas – When you want to ensure your kids burn off all their energy before their flight, take them to the children’s play area. Locations: Departures lounge, airside, between Gates 10 and 11 • 1st floor, landside, outside of the food court.

Duty-Free & Shopping – Duty-Free shopping is available at the Relay Shop and the Heritage Shop. Additionally, you will find a Jellybean Harbour store, Breakwater Place and a Best Buy Kiosk.

Information Desk – Have any questions? Visit the Visitor Information Centre (VIC) for assistance! Location: Arrivals Hall, Landside, near entrance/exit.

Quiet Room – A peaceful room for prayer or meditation is available. Chaplaincy services, such as grief counselling or stress management, are available upon request. Location: Landside, 3rd floor.

Bus

City Wide Taxi is the official taxi service provider of St. John’s Airport and has exclusive access to the airport’s taxi stand and pick-up/drop-off areas. Flat rates are available from the airport to area lodging. All other locations are metered and subject to a $5.00 airport fee.
