Alleged to be the world’s largest airport- takes up half the desert space just to achieve this for no reason but to be a record breaker in a country where tourism is forbidden! – a traveller

DMM Airport Overview

dammam airport guideTo help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Dammam Airport.

What to Expect

Dammam Airport (code: DMM) has a large, modern terminal that serves domestic and international destinations. Amenities include cafeterias, restaurants, and shops. WiFi is available in designated cafes and two airport lounges, which economy-class passengers can pay to enter. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Reviews of the airport procedures are also mixed. It seems as though travellers departing from the airport will have an easier time with fast and efficient check-in and security checkpoints. However, reports from arriving passengers indicated that going through Customs and Immigration is a miserable experience, with long, slow lines and rude, inattentive staff.   A recent reviewer (Aug 2016) reported a wait time of 4 – 5 hours just to get through the Customs and Immigration line! Past reviews are also mixed on the cleanliness of the airport’s restrooms. One reviewer advises travellers to “go” before they go to the airport!

Sleeping in Dammam Airport

We do not yet have any sleep-related airport reviews, but travellers generally recommend not staying longer than a few hours if possible. Have a backup plan if you’re planning to spend the night. For uninterrupted sleep, nearby hotels offer shuttle service for a fee. See our Airport Hotels section below for more info, or read traveller reviews for more tips.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.
