The only drawback, however, was a lack of food. There are NO vending machines in the airport, and believe me, we looked. – George
CHS Airport Overview
To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Charleston International Airport.
What to Expect
Charleston Airport (code: CHS) consists of a small, recently renovated terminal with two concourses (Concourse A and Concourse B), connected airside by a walkway. There is a decent selection of eateries, shops and other services on both sides of security. After airport restaurants and shops close for the night, the vending machines in baggage claim are the only in-airport snack option. Plan ahead and purchase your food and drinks before the concessions close. WiFi is available, with plenty of outlets to charge mobile devices. There are no private lounges at this airport.
Sleeping in Charleston Airport
After security checkpoints close for the night, all passengers are restricted to the landside areas, and security must be re-cleared the next day when the checkpoints open. Airport staff and security are described as friendly and do not mind people sleeping in the terminal. Seating near the baggage claim is described as reasonably comfortable. If you intend to sleep in this terminal, consider bringing eyeshades, as the lighting will remain bright throughout the night. For uninterrupted sleep, there are hotels near the airport that provide a free shuttle. See Airport Hotels in the guide below or read traveller airport reviews for more tips.
To help us keep this guide up-to-date, you can add or update information or write a review to submit airport tips and photos. You can also visit the airport’s website for current information. For more airport information, continue scrolling down to explore more in our Charleston Airport Guide.
In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security. For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.
