What to Expect
Bergamo Airport is a mid-size, two-level terminal with 11 departure gates and a wide selection of eateries and shops on both sides of security. WiFi is available, and there are some charging stations. For additional services and comforts, economy-class passengers can pay to access one of the airport’s private lounges.
Sleeping in Bergamo Airport
According to many travellers, Bergamo Airport offers a lower quality of airport sleeping. The seating areas are few and far between. The seats you can find are metal, uncomfortable, and un-sleepable due to the armrests. But you will find plenty of fellow travellers setting up camp on the floor. If you do plan on joining them, bring a few extra layers of clothing or, even better, a sleeping mat or bag for a more comfortable rest. Expect to be surrounded by many other travellers, and don’t be shocked if you get poked awake by a cleaner with a broom. Many travellers have had luck sleeping in the landside/public areas, specifically in the small passageway near the tourist information desk. Some reviews have stated that the departures area closes between 12:00 AM and 3:00 AM when there are no flights. So you should stay in the arrivals hall to guarantee some uninterrupted shut-eye.

When the prospect of sleeping on the floor or in a chair is giving you nightmares, there is good news for those of you who are looking to sleep at Bergamo Airport in comfort. If you are on a layover, you must pass through immigration/security as there is no transit hotel. Food concessions throughout both terminals operate with varying schedules. The Heineken bar and Al Volo operate 24/7.

Luggage Storage is available at Autostradale, which is near Parking 1. Hours: 8:00 AM – 10:00 PM.
Mobile Charging
One reader tells us there is a free mobile charging between Gates A12 and A13, with two USB outlets and one iPhone wireless charging surface. (July 2023) Another reader says that if you are looking for a USB-C adaptor charging, you can find them in the “B gates (international flights) upstairs food court, there are two wall plugs right around the stairs under the tables.” (April 2024) If you’re desperate for an outlet, one reader says, “There are some sockets on the ceiling near gate A12. Probably 3m high ceiling, but if your partner lifts you it’s pretty accessible.” (July 2024)

Showers are available in the HelloSky Milan Bergamo Lounge, located on the Airside. The rate is € 52 (lounge + shower access) or € 32 (shower only).

Security & Safety
At the time of this update, we have no reports from travellers commenting on safety issues at Bergamo Orio al Serio Airport. However, sleeping in any airport can include a certain level of risk, especially when travelling alone. It’s essential to take certain precautions to ensure your safety and the security of your valuables. Here are a few tips:
- Safety First. It’s a good idea to know where the security office is and look for video cameras where you plan to sleep. You can also ask the security personnel for advice on the safest places to spend the night.
- Don’t Seclude Yourself. If you’re travelling alone, we recommend you stay near other travellers or close to security. This will help you feel more secure and deter potential thieves.
- Hide Your Valuables. It’s also important to hide your valuables. Please don’t leave them out in plain view, as this could make you a target for theft. Additionally, if you are a deep sleeper, you may want to padlock your bag to something or sleep with your bag up against a wall to make it harder for someone to access zippers and pockets. We have received reports of sleepers who awoke without their phones and laptop bags. The travellers were left with just their headphones and laptop bag strap.
- Stay Alert. It’s best to stay alert and awake if you feel unsafe or uncomfortable. Drink coffee or other caffeinated beverages to help you stay awake, and remember that you can always catch up on sleep during your flight. These simple precautions can help you enjoy a safe night at the airport.
