What to Expect

Alice Springs Airport (code: ASP) has a single terminal servicing ten gates. Other than a few shops and two small eateries, there are few services at the airport, though there is free WiFi. Showers are available in the airside departures area. Economy class passengers may be able to pay to use one of the private airport lounges. See Airport Lounges in the guide below.

Sleeping in Alice Springs Airport

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.   

Airport Hours

According to the airport website, the airport opens 90 minutes before the first scheduled aircraft arrives and closes 20 minutes after the last scheduled aircraft departs.

Pay-per-use, Single Visit Passes & Lounge Memberships

Food & Drinks

At the time of this update, there are no 24-hour dining options. Food concessions throughout the terminal operate on varying schedules. Locations:

  • Landside: none
  • Airside: Discovered Cafe

Luggage Storage & Lockers

At one point, left luggage was offered at the Oversize Baggage Room. We could not confirm this in our 2023 update. Location: Opposite the Airport Management Centre, next to the First Aid Room. The storage fee was $10 per day.

Location: Airside, accessible to departing and arriving passengers.

Free WiFi is available at Alice Springs Airport.

More Services, Facilities & Things To Do On A Layover

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? ATMs are available. Fees may apply, so check your bank’s fee schedule and daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Locations: Landside and Airside.

Baby Care Facilities – Location: Airside, accessible to departing and arriving passengers.

Baggage Trolleys – Trolleys are available free of charge. You can find them in the car parks, baggage collection area and throughout the terminal.

Disabled Services – Wheelchairs are available on request, and the entire airport accommodates people with reduced mobility.

Duty-Free & Shopping – A newsstand and souvenir shop are available. Location: Departure Hall.

Information Desk – Location: Baggage Claim area, landside, eastern side of the terminal, near the vending machines, tables and baggage carousel.

Medical Services – A First Aid room is available. Location: Opposite the Management Centre. Hours: unknown.

Post Office – A post box is available on the airside, near the restaurant entrance.

Smoking Area – Smoking is permitted in the airside restaurant’s outdoor patio area. Designated smoking areas can also be found at the front of the terminal.

Airport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Airport Shuttle

The Alice Springs shuttle bus connects ASP airport and city center regularly. The adult rate as of this update is AU$19.00. Tickets can be purchased at the terminal or online at the Emu Run website.

Car Rentals

Car rental companies located at the terminal are: Avis • Budget • Enterprise • Europcar • Hertz • Sixt • Thrifty.

Metered taxis can be found outside of the arrivals area. The approximate fare for a ride from the airport to Alice Springs is $45.00.
