Plaza Premium Lounge Offers Sleep Rooms and Showers At Vancouver Airport

Travellers have a new place to relax, shower or even catch some sleep during their Vancouver layovers.

Plaza Premium Lounge (PPL) recently completed a 5-month renovation of its flagship International Departures  Lounge at Vancouver International Airport.  At 6,700 square feet, the lounge is touted as the largest pay-for-use lounge in Canada with room for about 180 people. The upscale facility is open to any traveller regardless of airline or class of ticket.

Prices start at Cdn$35 for two hours and include food and non-alcoholic beverages and access to one of the two shower rooms. There are also three nap rooms available for an additional fee – $60 for three hours or $100 for six hours.

The new lounge’s other amenities include free high-speed Wi-Fi, multiple computer workstations, charging stations for cellphones and tablets, sofa-type chairs, TVs and newspapers and magazines. There’s also a business centre with four computer workstations and a VIP room.

Food-wise, there are two separate dining areas. One offers hot and cold buffet choices and a salad bar and the other features a Hong Kong-style noodle bar.

PPL tapped the same Hong Kong-based designer, Kinney Chan of Kinney Chan & Associates, to handle the Vancouver reno. Similarities between the Hong Kong and Vancouver venues include neutral colours and floor-to-ceiling windows to let in natural light.

Travellers can find the lounge in International Departures (Pier D), directly after security screening.  Hours are 8:30 a.m.-1 a.m. Sunday through Friday, and 8:30 a.m to midnight Saturday.
