Frankfurt Airport welcomes first transit hotel offering hourly stays

For transit passengers at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), long layovers just got a lot easier to handle. The busiest airport in Germany recently opened an innovative transit hotel that solves the problems of many travellers: time and money.

My Cloud Transit Hotel is located in the secure zone of Terminal 1, near Gate Z 25. The 59 sleek, minimalist rooms offer privacy for guests with long layovers or early departures. While Frankfurt Airport already has a fair share of easily accessible hotels, these tend towards more traditional overnight stays that require a check-in and check-out time. They also tend towards a more traditional price tag.

Budget and casual travellers may not have the resources to spend on a hotel they’ll only utilize for a few hours between flights. Instead, they may opt to stay up all night before an early morning departure or find a quiet space in the terminal to take a nap.

The good news for transit travellers is that the 59 rooms are available for a minimum of three hours, or for overnight or even longer. It’s in-terminal location means travellers don’t have to pass through security and immigration a second time.

The not-so-good news is the price tag isn’t as affordable as other transit hotels that have opened in recent months. Still, the convenience and amenities may be worth it for some. Guests who check into My Cloud at Frankfurt Airport can expect a lot. Rooms fit two guests and are outfitted with a true bed, desk, and stool, an ensuite shower, and a separate bathroom. Free WiFi, “infotainment” system that can sync to your next flight, and a 24/7 reception desk are additional perks.

Designed for convenience, the My Cloud rooms don’t skimp on the view: panoramic glass windows run floor-to-ceiling to provide expansive views of the airfield.

Travellers can reserve a room at www.mycloud.de, though you will need to have a valid passport and a valid flight ticket for an arriving or departing flight from outside the Schengen area. Check-in and check-out is available between 5:00AM and 11:00PM.
