We had a hunch that Frontier Airlines had the capacity for greatness when we first saw their animal themed vertical stabilizers (… tail wings). And man, were we right! This budget airline just out did its competitors when the pilot threw an impromptu pizza party for his delayed flight.
Flight 719 was scheduled to fly direct from Washington D.C. to Denver when bad weather forced it to touch down in Cheyenne, Nebraska for a re-fuel.
Usually when a delay happens, a familiar agitation and antsy-ness overcomes the airplane atmosphere. Flight crews may offer generic condolences, but that rarely does much to sooth the nerves. This however, was not the case on Captain Berhard Brandner’s flight. Rather, he opted to overpower these feelings with the delightful smell of fresh Domino’s Pizza.
“The captain took his own initiative,” passenger Logan Marie Torre told Fox 31. “He said ‘Ladies and gentlemen, Frontier Airlines is known for being one of the cheapest airlines in the U.S., but your captain is not cheap. I just ordered pizza for the entire plane.'”
After an hour on the ground, passengers were treated to 50 pizzas delivered right to the tarmac! Flight attendants passed out slices of pepperoni and cheese to elated – and likely hungry – passengers.
The flight touched down five hours behind schedule, but we can only assume this was single-handedly the best delay ever experienced by the passengers.
Now that we know Frontier offers great rates, efficient routes AND (sometimes) free pizza, we will be sure to use them the next time we fly within America, to Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica or Mexico! We just wonder if it is possible to request Captain Brandner…
All in all, this certainly is an airline that matches its mission of “low fares done right”.
