Me and my sister had to catch a plane to Sicily early in the morning. So we passed the night at Milan Linate. The atmosphere was very quiet. You have to arrive, if you want to stay for the night, before 1.30am because they close the door and, if you aren't already in, you have to wait outside the airport. To reach the airport also in the evening you can use the bus 73 from Piazza San Babila (near Duomo Square): this bus is cheaper than the on from Central Train Station and runs also in the late evening and the first hours of the night.
The airport was very quiet: nobody bothered me, there was no noise at all and the chairs have no armrests so you can sleep quite comfortably. The only think is that all the shops, cafes and restaurants closed at night and you can't find machines that sell water or food and snacks..so you'd better to bring them from home.

Chairs are with armrest made me very hard to fall asleep, it is impossible to lie down. Quite cold after midnight as the heater is switched off. Around 3am there will be cleaning staff with a big machine(and with loud noise of course, which might wake you up). Toilet is clean. There are 3-4 people who are homeless I suppose as I see them for the two nights when I was in the airport. Anyway they did nothing bad to me. So it is quite safe. There is public transport connection(bus) to Milan city centre, around 20 minutes.
