KTW Airport Overview

To help you plan your layover or overnight sleepover, here is a quick run-down about what to expect during your time at Katowice Airport.

What to Expect

Katowice Airport (code: KTW) has three small terminals: Terminal A serves non-Schengen zone departures, Terminal B handles Schengen zone departures, and the recently-built Terminal C oversees all arrivals. Travellers report intense security procedures.  Facilities include a few shops and eateries in Terminals A and B, some of which may be open 24 hours. There may be free showers, for freshening up. WiFi is available in two airport lounges, which economy class passengers can pay to enter. See Airport Lounges in the guide below for location and access information.

Sleeping in Katowice Airport

katowice airport guideSome travellers recommend sleeping in the Observation Deck, but others describe cold temperatures, metal benches, and too much light and noise for decent overnight sleeping. Others prefer Floor 1, which has quieter nooks and some armrest-free seating, Terminal B’s Floor 2 that has long, flat seats. Wherever you land, a sleeping bag, eye mask, and noise cancelling headphones or earplugs may prove useful. For uninterrupted sleep, nearby hotels offer shuttle service. See the Airport Hotels section below for locations or read some traveller airport reviews for more tips.

In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. Airside is the secure area of the terminal that you must reach by going through security.  For more information on Europe’s Schengen Area, click here.
