Lasting Impressions....

"The terminal is massive. I got lost and had to find security to get directions to my gate. " - zurichopper

"watch out for the moving golf carts whizzing around they can change your trip to a journey to the doctor!" (hmasurg)

"I've slept four nights in the Frankfurt Airport.  During the day I ventured out to the city and surrounding area for some sightseeing, but always returned at night to sleep in the airport. " (megz4716)

"The toilets were clean (well as clean as you can be with 18 year olds throwing up in them) as was the gate/terminal." (Sarah K)

"Frankfurt bathrooms are unbearable. Each time I end up there I say to myself that i can just breath through my mouth, but then i see the tiny dirty toilet bowl and empty toilet paper dispensers and run out of there gagging." (gabby)

"I dozed off in the airport, from which I was flying out later that AM.  I awoke to find one of my bags missing and my shoulder bag cut from around my body.  The thieves had even cut through my coat." (?)

A few airport reviews from the archives

Well then, I read the reviews on this site and went to Frankfurt International with the resulting information. I slept in the very main, obvious area that you encounter upon first entering. I guess it would be called the main lobby or check-in area. It was Terminal 1 (Terminal 2 seems to be more of an afterthought).
Now then, I heard many people referring to Lufthansa, and I understand the focus on such. You will see the Lufthansa area to your right upon entering. You must go all the way to the far corner to find the triple chairs that I heard the others referring to. There are two of those in this far corner, and when I arrived, they were already taken for the rest of the night. You can actually find another triple seater, as I recall, if you double back and round another corner and look against the wall, by the restrooms as I remember.
In this area, you will also find one of the many "islands". These are little backless bench set-ups that seem designed for weary waiting travellers to sit. They are made out of wood and do not look comfortable to sleep on, though I saw a couple of people doing just that. You can recognize them by, of all things, a giant photo of a tiny thatch of tall green grass.
Regarding the padded lounge chairs of which I read so much about, they are certainly there, toward the back area close to the shops. I missed another area next to it that had even more of these, so be sure to look for both adjacent seating areas. These padded chairs aren't so very comfortable, but functional for sleeping. I don't know what another contributor was referring to by the ones where you can "almost lie flat". I didn't find any "quiet area", though I wish I did and I'll have to look harder next time.
The Samsung island that was referred to is happily there and yes, it has free internet. A very nice amenity. They seem like demonstration models for small computers with tiny keyboards, but they do the job. You have to fiddle with the log-in to get it right. This little Samsung area is quite small, so look out for it. It's very close to the main seating area I already mentioned.
The noise didn't bother me, and no security seems to be bothered very much by sleepers. I think they are very used to it.
