paramaibo airport guideThe small terminal at Paramaribo Airport (code: PBM) handles regional and international flights. Facilities are limited to a few eateries, a duty-free area, and a souvenir shop. Free WiFi helps pass the time.

Sleeping in Paramaribo Airport

This airport may close nightly, so have a backup plan if you’re camping out. One reviewer had no trouble staying the night, using his sleeping bag in a corner of the terminal. In this guide we may refer to locations as “landside” and “airside”. Landside is the public area of the terminal located in the non-secure zone, before security. If sleeping in the airport sounds like a nightmare, there are a few guest houses near Paramaribo Airport.  A reader tells us there are also some camping and bush lodge type accommodations near the airport.  For a hotel you would need to return to the city center, which is over an hour away.

ATMs / Cash Machines – Need cash? An ATM, operated by DSB, is available. Fees may apply, so be sure to check your bank’s fee schedule and your daily withdrawal limit if you are travelling internationally. You may also want to notify your bank of your travel plans. Location: Landside, Ground Floor.

Currency Exchange – Location: Landside, Arrivals Hall. Hours: open 24 hours.

Duty Free & Shopping – Duty-free liquor and tobacco are sold at Kings Duty Free, and duty-free perfume can be purchased at Paris Gallery. A souvenir shop is also available in the airport.

Food & Drinks – Food concessions throughout the airport operate with varying schedules. At the time of this update, we are unable to confirm the availability of any 24-hour dining options.

Information Desk – There is a Tourism Desk and office offering airport services that may be able to assist you.

Luggage Storage & Lockers – Not available.

transportationAirport Transportation: Getting To/From The Airport

Buses

Garage Ashruf operates a 24-hour airport bus service for transporting passengers between the airport and the city center. A one-way journey takes about an hour, or longer during rush hour. Arriving passengers can check in at Unit 32 in the Arrivals Hall. A reservation is required for rides back to the airport. In addition to the Garage Ashruf tourist buses, some local city buses also serve the airport, stopping at the road in front of the airport.

Minibus

Travel like the locals do! If your load is light, you can travel at a fraction of the price of a taxi by taking one of the shared-ride minibuses that pass along the main road in front of the airport.

Taxis

Taxis are readily available for hire in the ground transportation area. There are no meters, so negotiate a fare with the driver before starting your journey.
