"I have passed through Tripoli airport a number of times
over the last twelve months and it is always an experience.
First of all, you only have announcements (very frequent and
very loud for the limited quantity of flights going through this
airport) in Arabic. Therefore it is important to keep an eye on
the TV screens which switch from Arabic to English. I once spent
5 hours at the airport, waiting for a plane which arrived late,
but I could not get any information on how long the delay would
be. The TV screens just indicated "delayed" and
finding someone who speaks English at the airport is
difficult. The seats are OK (with armrests), and it is possible
to put your feet on the tables while trying to sleep. The small
restaurant is crap and a rip-off. If you do not have Libyan
Dinars with you, they accept USD or EUR but at the exchange rate
of 1 EUR/USD = 1 LYD. While in reality the rate is 1 EUR = 1.6
LYD. And offcourse there is no alcohol in the airport, as it is
illegal in Libya."
