"Visited the airport twice, in the middle of the night, due
to very bad incoming and outgoing flights.
Passport checks is a real mess. It looks like you are in the
souks. No queueing, everybody is pushing and no respect at all.
The stronger, the better; the faster the better; the smaller the
better.
On arrival, taxis wait outside, and don't hassle you as usual,
however they will ask for a huge fare compared to the usual fare
to go the airport from town (up to 2500 UM from the airport....
but only 300 UM from town)! Taxis are generally safe. I had no
problem taking them at night, alone.
However, I did not experience any attempt of bribing from the
officers, neither on arrival nor on departure a few days later,
which is quite an exception in Africa. A few "porteurs"
do try do get some money from you in exchange of "paperworks"
on your way out, but you really don't need them: all the process
can be done alone, and wasn't asked for cadeaux or money from
police officers."
