"Travel to and from the airport is usually via high-speed armed police
escorted company convoy - but this is normal practise in Nigeria!"
(?)
"Nothing compares in filth, insecurity, and lack of facilities to the
Muhammed Murtala airport in Lagos, Nigeria" (Sharon Schierling)
What you can look forward to:
reviews have "improved" in recent years, but let's
not get carried away there are still problems
apparently it is now "clean"
you may need to pay some bribes
your passport is retained to be photocopied
false accusations, murders, robberies, fights, rumours of
passengers being mugged on the tarmac
Don't drink the water
Overflowing toilets
You'll want to read these reviews even if you are not
travelling to Lagos. These will make you appreciate your
own "horror" stories a little more.

"I visited Lagos Murtula Mohammed International Airport
recently flying in from a regional destination and flying out a
couple of days later back to Europe. The airport has
improved enormously and is tolerable in itself. However as with
the rest of Lagos any travellers primary fears should be towards
personal security with Taxi travel to and from the city. Taxi's
are a serious problem - and some 80 percent of violent crime
perpetrated against foreigners occurs in Taxis. My advice would
be to either have a local friend collect you or to ask a
Nigerian official to help you find a cab. Once found, make sure
you take down the taxi numbers, and number plate and leave with
official at airport. Make sure the taxi driver knows you have
done this - as then he/she will know they can be caught should
they try anything, as carrying guns and knives is very
common."
